Pro City Recap 6-29-09

Teams wasted no time getting into action in the second week of regular season play in the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League. The upcoming Fourth of July weekend shortened the league's usual four-day schedule to two.

The first game had an NBA All-Star feel with B2X facing the Pat Madison Magic. Both teams were tied at 88 through three quarters in a see-saw fight.

But B2X had enough energy for a 15-4 run to start the final quarter to defeat the Magic 134-116 at the St. Paul Salvation Army gym.

Future Golden Gopher Rodney Williams lead B2X with 32 points, 13 of them coming in the final quarter.

Former Hopkins standout and soon-to-be senior Blake Hoffarber was quiet in the first 30 minutes, scoring just four points.

However, Hoffarber continued his reputation of scoring in the clutch by adding 13 points in the final 10 minutes, giving him 17 for the game.

David Hanson of Cal Poly led the Magic with 29 points and head coach Jeff Mailhot added 23.

B2X improved to 2-1 on the season while the Magic still look for their first win, falling to 0-3.

Fans were not disappointed in the nightcap, where winless Troy Hudson Enterprises battled a bye team, a youth squad meant to give league teams a competitive game.

To say they were competitive would be an understatement. The bye team dominated the former Wolves player's squad in the first half, leading 54-45 at halftime and holding Hudson to just 10 points.

It took Hudson's team over 25 minutes to get their first lead of the game, but a 15-point assault from Hudson in the third quarter gave his enterprising staff an 80-78 lead heading for the final stanza.

A few lead changes later, the Enterprises emerged victorious in the 113-104 slugfest. Hudson finished with 35 points. 2009 Mr. Basketball Minnesota and future Gopher Royce White added 26, including 7 straight in the final two minutes to prevent the upset.

The remaining four teams will take the Salvation Army court tomorrow, with El-Amin Fish House looking to remain undefeated against TRP Group at 7:00 p.m. Two 2-0 teams will play to stay perfect in the nightcap, featuring A & A Millwork vs. the Errol Carlstrom Playaz.
