POSTON TO MISS SEASON WITH ACHILLES TENDON INJURY

The following is a press release from Purdue University

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Chantel Poston, a 5-10 sophomore guard on the Purdue women’s basketball team, has injured the Achilles tendon in her right leg and is expected to miss the season. Poston will meet with a specialist on Monday and it is anticipated that surgery will be scheduled at that time.

"It is a disappointing injury for Chantel and for our team, especially since Chantel had worked so hard and made such progress in the offseason,” head coach Sharon Versyp said. “Fortunately, she’s in good hands. The medical staff for Purdue is among the best in the country and will ensure she makes a full recovery in as little time as possible."

Poston suffered the injury while conditioning with the team on Thursday.

The Milan, Tenn., native played in 35 of 36 games as a freshman, averaging 2.4 points and 1.6 rebounds in 8.4 minutes per contest. She recorded a career-high 15 points and six rebounds against Portland on Nov. 20, 2008.
