And Then There Was One...

The following is a press release from Concordia University, St. Paul

ST. PAUL, Minn. - As of this week, the Concordia University volleyball team is the only remaining undefeated team in the nation!!! Cal State San Bernardino had been the only other unscathed team until last weekend, when they suffered a 3-1 defeat to UC San Diego. The decision reversed the national rankings for the two teams, with the Coyotes dropping to #3 and UC San Diego assuming the position behind your 23-0 Golden Bears.

The Golden Bears have begun to build a history with the 19-1 Coyotes over the past few years. Although they are riding high on a current 60-match winning streak, the Golden Bears started the 2008 season with a huge hurdle when they went 0-1 against CSU San Bernardino. The team has not lost a single match since that day more than a year and a half ago The highlight of Concordia's 2008 season also included the Coyotes. CU and CSUSB, ranked #1 and #2 respectively, met up in last season's National Championship match right here at the Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, where the Golden Bears came out victorious with the 3-2 win.

There are only four other teams in all divisions of NCAA volleyball who are still undefeated this season. Big-timer Penn State has added 20 wins to their all-time leading NCAA winning streak to make it 80 matches without a loss. The Texas Longhorns are also undefeated at 14-0. NCAA Division III affiliate Wisconsin-Oshkosh is 27-0 on the year, matched with an 18-0 Texas-Dallas squad with a 1.000 winning percentage.
