A & A Millwork held their tie for second place in the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League with a convincing 108-98 win Wednesday night against the Pat Madison Magic in the St. Paul Salvation Army gym.
Recent UNC-Charlotte graduate Lamont Mack scored a game-high 31 points for the Millwork. Emporia State's Tyrell Sledge added 23. On the other end, Cal Poly's David Hanson led the Magic with 28 points.
The Millwork (4-1) did not even need to use any bench players. That was good, because only five players dressed up for the game, meaning the players on the floor had to play all 40 minutes without a break.
Not like they needed it. The Millwork jumped ahead early, outscoring the Magic 28-14 in the first quarter. The Millwork's smallest lead after that point was nine.
The Magic (0-5) could not string much together on offense, struggling with their shots while the Millwork killed the clock all night with their perimeter offense.
With a Millwork win safely locked away, Sledge provided the most comical moment of the game, coming off the bench to steal an inbounds pass from the Magic with just over a minute in the fourth. Sledge was charged a technical foul for his behavior, but his teammates were fine without him in the closing minutes.
The Millwork will play a bye team next Tuesday at 8:45 p.m. and the Magic will try to get win number one against TRP Group next Monday at 8:45 p.m.
