Enterprises get last laugh versus B2X
BY MIKE PEDEN
B2X and Troy Hudson Enterprises started later than scheduled in Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League action Wednesday night with the game in front going to double overtime.
In the end, the Enterprises beat B2X 135-133 in a double overtime game of their own Wednesday night at the St. Paul Salvation Army gym.
North Dakota State's Coco Cofield scored a game-high 49 points and scored the two most important points of the night for Hudson's team, sinking two free throws with eight seconds to play in the second overtime.
Before that happened, the Enterprises (4-3) found themselves trailing by eight midway through the first quarter before ending the quarter on an 8-0 run to give them the lead. The Enterprises then slowly built their lead up to 16 in the third before settling on 13 to start the fourth.
B2X (2-5) began to chip away at that lead in the fourth. Former Minnesota player Vince Grier made a three-point play with 45 seconds left in regulation to cut their deficit to two. Two missed free throws on a Jamar Diggs foul kept them alive.
On the subsequent timeout, Grier said to the Enterprise bench that he would make a three to send everyone home. He got the ball and drained the jumper on the last play and B2X celebrated, thinking they won the game, but Grier was on the three-point line when he shot the ball. What was once joy became frustration for Grier as the referees ruled it a two-point shot.
B2X had another chance to seal the game in the first overtime, but Minnesota recruit Royce White scored a layup after missing two free throws to end the first overtime with a 122-122 tie.
The Enterprises got it done in the second overtime, and played all night without the former Wolves player on the roster.
As usual, Minnesota recruit Rodney Williams amazed the crowd with his dunking skills for B2X, but he got less playing time in this game in what may be a move to rest key players for the playoffs, which start next week.
