Golden Gopher head coach Pam Borton announced today that Leigh Gregory will join the Minnesota women’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant coach. Gregory, who fills the position vacated by Marisa Moseley’s move to Connecticut, will begin her duties with the Gophers in early June.
“We are excited to have Leigh join the Gopher family,” said Borton. “Leigh is an outstanding young coach who will be a perfect fit at Minnesota. She is a great communicator with exceptional people skills. She is a great recruiter and will be an exceptional coach on the floor with our players. I am thrilled to have her join our staff and I know our players will be as well.”
“I thrilled and very excited about this opportunity to come to Minnesota and work with Pam, her staff and the players,” said Gregory. “The Minnesota women’s basketball program gets such great support from the administration and the fans. You look to surround yourself with good people and great things can happen. This opportunity was one I just couldn’t pass up.”
Gregory is a young, energetic coach who has moved up in the coaching ranks quickly. She comes to Minnesota after one-season stints at Santa Clara and Denver. At Minnesota, Gregory will assist with post player development, scouting and recruiting.
Gregory played her collegiate basketball at California, where she was a four-year starting post player for the Golden Bears from 2001-05. She scored 1,136 career points and ranks 11th in Cal history. As a senior, she garnered All-Pac 10 Honorable Mention acclaim and served as a team captain. Gregory earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology.
