San Antonio Silver Stars Select Three In 2009 WNBA Draft

SAN ANTONIO (April 9, 2009) – The San Antonio Silver Stars selected Megan Frazee (14th), Sonja Petrovic (26th) and Candyce Bingham (39th) in the 2009 WNBA Draft presented by adidas today, according to General Manager and Head Coach Dan Hughes.

Frazee, a 6’3” forward out of Liberty University, earned Big South Player of the Year honors after averaging 20.3 points and 10.0 rebounds per game for the Flames this past season. During her four-year collegiate career, Frazee averaged 18.6 points and 9.3 rebounds per game.

“Megan Frazee is a very interesting prospect,” said Hughes. “She’s strong, has one of the best three-point shooting abilities of any player in the draft. We like her versatility. She’s strong enough to finish near the goal, but skilled enough to stretch the floor.”

Petrovic, 6’1”, is a 19-year-old Serbian National Team player who currently plays for Spartak in Moscow along with WNBA superstars Diana Taurasi, Sue Bird and Lauren Jackson. She has been recovering from a knee injury this season, but was the 2007 FIBA Young Women’s Player of the Year following a stellar season with the French EuroLeague team Bourges Basket.

“Sonja has tremendous up side,” said Hughes. “We don’t know exactly when, but we look forward to having her be part of the Silver Stars family. She is very competitive with a strong perimeter game.”
