I will post thoughts as the draft moves along. You will also find the press releases the Minnesota Lynx send out during the draft below this post. About 5 hours after the draft I will post as many of the press releases from the other teams and the league as I can find
1 - With the first 2 picks, it is clear that the league, in general, wants to increase scoring so naturally post players are the way to go.
Angel McCoughtry went #1 and Marissa Coleman at #2
2 - Just as I open my big mouth, guards start pooping up, and everyone knows it is hard to find a guard - NOT.
Kristi Toliver goes #3 and the Lynx pick Renee Montgomery at #4. Note that this pick for the Lynx gives Miller someone to "work with" in her final year(s) as a WNBA player. Once again there is reason for the local fans to cross their fingers in hope (if they are not permanently in that position already).
3 - DeWanna Bonner is the #5 pick, #6 is Briann January. That's 4 guards in a row! Is Paris going to drop to #9 for the locals?
4 - Sorry I got your hopes up Lynx fans but Courtney Paris went #7. Hey here is something to not look forward to, E. Fox being picked by the Lynx in the all important final round. Kia Vaughn goes #8. And at the #9 spot the Lynx get Hollingsworth, Quanitra. WHO? Look out, Roger and Coach Z appear to have been out looking at players this year.
5 - So the first round of the draft looks like this:
1 Atlanta Dream - Angel McCoughtry
2 Washington Mystics - Marissa Coleman
3 Chicago Sky - Kristi Toliver
4 Minnesota Lynx - Renee Montgomery
5 Phoenix Mercury - DeWanna Bonner
6 Indiana Fever - Briann January
7 Sacramento Monarchs - Courtney Paris
8 New York Liberty - Kia Vaughn
9 Minnesota Lynx - Quanitra Hollingsworth
10 Connecticut Sun - Chante Black
11 Detroit Shock - Shavonte Zellous
12 Seattle Storm - Ashley Walker
13 L.A. Sparks - Lindsay Wisdom-Hylton
6 -At #14 Megan Frazee and Rashanda McCants is the #15 pick for the Lynx. At least they are addressing the STRONG need of post players in the draft this year.
Well I have other things to do today with the draft being held during work hours (another brilliant marketing move by the WNBA). You can click here to see the entire draft board as it fills up.
