Minnesota head coach Pam Borton announced that China Antoine from Shelton State Community College (Ala.) has signed a National Letter of Intent. Antoine, a 5-3 point guard, will join the Golden Gopher as a junior in the 2009-10 season.
“We are excited to have China join our program,” said Borton. “A point guard and leader, China is a proven winner and her teams have won a lot! Coming from a program that is used to winning is something we look for in recruiting student-athletes to our program. China is a great fit for our program and we are excited to welcome her into our Gopher family.”
Antoine helped the Lady Bucs to NCJAA National Tournament appearances in both 2008 and 2009. Shelton State finished sixth in the tournament last season, posting a 38-6 overall record. The 2008 squad placed seventh and collected a 31-5 record. Shelton State captured Alabama Community College Conference titles (ACCC) in both seasons.
Antoine finished the 2008-09 season among the NJCAA leaders in assists and steals. She dished out 6.9 assists per game to rank fourth in the nation, while her 3.2 steals per game ranked 21st. During the season, Antoine earned All-ACCC Second Team honors and went on to collect MVP accord at both the conference and regional tournaments.
